Grand Rounds February

Savannah Park Town Center Ground Breaking

The Offices at Savannah Park are finally underway! Two weeks ago we had the official "Ground Breaking" of the first "Class A' Professional Office Building within The Exchange at Savannah Park Town Center, which is located on International Parkway one mile North of 46A in the Heathrow area. Each of the first two professional office buildings will be approximately 20,000 sq ft of office space suitable for all professional businesses. The Exchange at Savannah Park is a Mixed-Use project consisting of residential condo's, boutique style retail shops, professional offices, sit down restaurants, as well as sixty 1,000 sq ft Class A apartments located above the retail buildings.

Savannah Park is a very desirable location for your professional business as it not only is located in the highly respected Heathrow-Lake Mary area, but it is surrounded by upscale residential developments. Tall Trees, Wilson Place, The Forest, Heathrow, and the condominiums at Colonial Town Center are all located just minutes away. In addition there will be a total of 216 residential units within Savannah Park itself. The new extension of the 417 will interchange with International Parkway one half mile South of Savannah Park, offering easy access to all areas of Central Florida.

The first shell building will be completed in June or July. We are marketing lease or purchase space at this time, and are offering great incentives for the first few businesses who enter into contracts. Our prices include architectural fees, interior design fees, and we handle the permitting process for your building permits. If we are able to construct your space at the same time we are constructing the shell building, we can offer tenant improvement discounts.

The good news is that since our Ground Breaking two weeks ago we have the first floor walls up, and construction is proceeding on an accelerated pace. Contact Jim Thomas, Director of Marketing for Kilcarraig Services at 407-467-0659

Parrish Medical Center granted state approval to perform elective angioplasty and stenting

TITUSVILLE — The State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), which regulates hospital services, has granted Parrish Medical Center (PMC) approval to perform elective coronary angioplasty and stenting. This comes just over one year after the medical center sought and earned approval from AHCA to perform these procedures on an emergency basis.

The state requires and evaluates quality indicators like time-to-treatment, training of staff and cardiologists and other indicators as part of its approval process.

Coronary angioplasty is a procedure performed inside a catheterization lab to open clogged arteries in response to a heart attack. The procedure quickly restores blood flow through blocked arteries without the need for invasive open-heart surgery.

PMC's cardiovascular program includes highly credentialed, board-certified interventional cardiologists Chapman Bean, MD, Biju Mathews, MD, and Ravi Rao, MD, and board-certified cardiologists David McMahon, MD, Kiran Modi, MD, Naresh Mody, MD, and Surya Rao, MD.

Award-Winning Surgeon Joins Florida Hospital Fish Memorial

ORANGE CITY— Guiding frightened patients and their families through the maze of medical information surrounding a cancer diagnosis is no small task. The ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients earned Walter C. Hayne, M.D., a Best Bedside Manner Award from Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey. As the newest member of FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial's surgical team, Dr. Hayne brings his patient-centered approach to Volusia County.

"Taking care of patients is not just doing surgery. It's important for them to understand the procedure they're having done and what their future holds. Breast cancer patients can beat their disease. It will require surgery and treatments, but we will take care of them."

Trained as a general surgeon, Dr. Hayne specializes in breast surgery and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He received a medical degree from Temple School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and did his residency at Cornell Medical Center's New York Hospital.

Empathy Belly Allows Expecting Dads To Experience Pregnancy

CLERMONT— South Lake Hospital has added an empathy belly pregnancy simulator to its childbirth class to allow expecting fathers the opportunity to understand what effects pregnancy has on a women's body.

The device is a weighted garment that allows the wearer to experience more than 20 of typical symptoms and effects of pregnancy. Symptoms that can be experienced include body weight gain of 30 to 33 pounds, protruding abdominal belly, pressure on the bladder, mild "fetal" kicking and stroking movements and lower backaches. These effects are simulated through the use of a rib belt and strategic positioning of various weighted components. The garment is strictly external and does not have any mechanical or electrical components. Having fathers-to-be wear the garment in class enables them to understand and sympathize with their partner's experiences during pregnancy.

Childbirth classes are offered at South Lake Hospital as a six-week session or one-day express class. For more information on the classes and to register, please call 352.241.7109. The classes are educational, fun and provide the opportunity to interact with other couples while sharing thepregnancy experience.

Introducing Incisionless Cholescystectomy

The New Wave in Minimally Invasive Surgery with the use of special tools and instruments, "incisionless" surgery provides access to the abdominal organs through the patient's naval with no visible incisions, eliminating the need for open incisions into the body.

During gallbladder removal, or cholecystectomy, a thin tube or "trocar" containing a small video camera is inserted in the naval incision, allowing the surgeon to see inside the body. A device using electric current detaches the gallbladder, which is then withdrawn through a trocar near the naval. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, and the patient is usually discharged to home the same day. After post-operative evaluation by the surgeon, full activity can be resumed as soon as the patient feels comfortable.

According to David Bjerken, M.D., who specializes in performing this procedure at Florida Hospital Waterman, "Operating through a tiny incision in the naval means less pain, faster healing, and less scarring. Since the incision is extremely small, discomfort after surgery is reduced and recovery is faster."
