Florida Hospital DeLand Announces New BirthCare Center Director

DeLand — Florida Hospital DeLand is pleased to announce Tammy Strasser as the new BirthCare Center Director.
 
Strasser comes to DeLand from Greenville, SC, with 15 years of experience in Women's Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology. In Greenville, she was the Administrative Director of OB at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.
 
As the BirthCare Center Director at Florida Hospital DeLand, Strasser will provide direction and support to the units of the Birthcare Center. She will be responsible for the quality and standards of patient care, performance improvement, program management, business operations, budget and resource utilization and management development for Labor & Delivery, Mother –Baby Unit and Nursery.
 
Prior to Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, she was the Unit Director of the Ante partum, Labor and Delivery and Post-partum units at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, OH. Strasser is also a United States Air Force Major and brings with her experience from serving as a registered nurse, clinical educator and staff development officer.
 
Strasser received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Florida and a Masters of Science in Human Resource Management from Chapman University. She holds certifications in Organizational leadership, Inpatient Obstetrics and Electronic Fetal Monitoring. She also has advanced training from the United States Air Force.
 

GVA Advantis Grows Orlando Office With Two Associates

GVA Advantis recently added two new brokerage associates in its Orlando office: Connie Snyder, Associate Director, Office Services, and Don Rudolph, CCIM, Associate, Office & Industrial Services.
 
Both come with rich backgrounds in diverse areas of commercial real estate. Snyder recently left her position as Medical Office Specialist of RE/MAX 200 Realty's Commercial Division having developed a successful niche in the medical office building segment, generally regarded as a somewhat recession-proof business. Rudolph, who earned his Certified Commercial Investment Member designation in 2007 and recently served as associate of office and industrial services with NAI Realvest, brings experience in land, office and industrial services, but also tenant representation, investment and buyer brokerage services.
 

Meyer Internal Medicine Welcomes Two New Physicians

Meyer Internal Medicine, located in Orlando, Florida, is pleased to announce the addition of Margaret C. Vives-Austin, M.D., and Michael S. Melton, M.D., to the practice.
 
Dr. Vives-Austin is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine completing her medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and internship in surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Vives-Austin is Chair of the Oral Board Exam Committee for the Board of Certification in Emergency Medicine.
 
Dr. Michael Melton is Board Certified in Family Medicine and received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in New Jersey and completed his Family Practice residency as Chief Resident at Underwood Memorial Hospital, New Jersey. Dr. Melton is relocating from Melbourne, Florida where he began private practice in 2004.
 

Florida Hospital DeLand Announces New Director of Cardiopulmonary

Florida Hospital DeLand is pleased to announce Robert D. Ropp as the new Director of Cardiopulmonary.
 
Ropp comes to DeLand from Rome, Georgia, where he was the Director of Cardiopulmonary at Floyd Medical Center for twelve years. He brings with him achievements in health care operations, care and clinical services, and facility management, along with practice in therapy, respiratory, cardiopulmonary, sleep disorders, Interventional Radiology, non-invasive vascular neurodiagnostic and neonatal transport medical services.
 
Ropp is a graduate of Covenant College where he received his bachelor of science in organizational management and leadership. He is also a registered respiratory therapist and certified respiratory therapy technician.
 

Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Set to Open Expanded Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders

Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children opened its expanded Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders in June, tripling the size of its outpatient unit and doubling its inpatient capacity. The five million dollar project was funded by philanthropic support.
 
The center has a serene Florida golf theme featuring mammals in the outpatient unit and water animals in the inpatient unit. The Haley Family Kid's Place Outpatient Unit expanded from 2,594 to 10,672 square feet. It features eight private infusion bays, three long stay infusion rooms, eight physician exam rooms, two sedation rooms, a video conference room, a playroom and Child Life work area and an audiology testing booth to serve not only the pediatric cancer patients but all pediatric patients in need of hearing tests
 
The Edward Joseph and Helen Hall Leon & Family Inpatient Unit increased from 11 to 20 beds and grew from 5,512 to 13,513 square feet. It also includes two sedation rooms, two playrooms with one being dedicated exclusively to teenagers, a dedicated sibling corner and a family gathering room. Patients moved to the new unit on July 6.
 

Bakkiam Subbiah, M.D. Obtains Certification in Vascular Neurology

Clermont — The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. (ABPN) congratulates Bakkiam Subbiah, M.D. for successfully completing the board certification examination in Vascular Neurology in May 2009.  
 
In accordance with ABPN Board certification, Dr. Subbiah has completed rigorous training and achieved the gold standard in each of the six core competencies of patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, systems-based practice, and practice-based learning and improvement to practice quality specialized medicine in Vascular Neurology.
 
In addition to the Vascular Neurology certification, Dr. Subbiah is also board certified in Neurology (ABPN) and independently board certified in Electro-Diagnostic Medicine (ABEM), Electroencephalography, Evoked Potentials (ABCN) and Sleep Disorders Medicine (ABSM).
 

North Orlando Surgical Group Opens Lake Mary Office And Welcomes New Physician

North Orlando Surgical Group is pleased to announce that has opened a satellite office in Seminole County. The office is located at South International Parkway in Lake Mary.
 
The office would also like to welcome Dr. Michael Sutherland. Dr. Sutherland joins Dr. Jeremy Steinbaum and Dr. Snehal "Sonny" Patel. Dr. Sutherland completed his training at Chicago Osteopathic Hospitals and completed a Vascular Fellowship at the University of North Texas. All three surgeons are Board Certified.
 

Local Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Inducted into Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

Jay Albright, MD, was recently inducted into the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). He was one of 667 new members inducted.
 
Dr. Albright is one of a handful of physicians in the country with full fellowships in both pediatric orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine. He is a nationally known expert in the treatment of young athletes and the wide spectrum of sports injuries they sustain.
 
He received his medical degree and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Iowa. Dr. Albright then went on to complete a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the University of California, San Diego followed by a sports medicine fellowship with Frank Noyes, MD, at The Cincinnati Sports Medicine Center in Cincinnati.
 

Construction Begins: Nemours Children's Hospital And Pediatric Health Campus

Nemours, one of the nation's leading children's health systems, has begun construction on the Nemours Children's Hospital in Lake Nona's medical city. The 630,000-square-foot children's hospital will include 95 beds and serve as the core of a 60-acre pediatric health campus featuring a children's clinic, emergency department, diagnostic and ambulatory programs along with education and research centers. Nemours plans to open the $380 million hospital in 2012.
