Health Central Utilizes Technology To Keep Hearts Healthy

Ocoee — A landmark milestone was achieved at Health Central with the opening of a second Catheterization suite offering minimally invasive vascular and cardiac procedures with even more cutting-edge technology. Health Central's second cath lab allows physicians to treat patients with cardiac and vascular problems by utilizing intravascular ultrasound and thrombolysis, with the latest in balloon, wire, and stent technology. These newer techniques allow patients to recover faster and can be performed under local anesthesia rather than in the operating room under general anesthesia.

Permission obtained from the Agency for Health Care Administration allowed Health Central's physicians to perform the first invasive Catheterization on a patient who had 99% artery blockage in their heart. Following the successful procedure, three more heart caths were performed. Health Central's first interventional cath lab patients are resting well in the newly renovated CardioVascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), a unit designed to care for interventional recovery and high-risk vascular and cardiac patients.

Health Central is also pleased to announce that a new voice activated dictation system, PowerScribe®, has been implemented for the Radiology team. The new system provides reports to physicians almost instantly after being dictated by the Radiologist. This technology will greatly improve the speed of services to patients and significantly reduce wait times.

With the new Interventional Cath Lab, CVICU and PowerScribe® technology, Health Central continues to provide the highest quality of care that our community deserves. For more information about Health Central and its services, please visit healthcentral.org.

Seeing Doubles: Twins Help Celebrate Groundbreaking as Winter Park Memorial Hospital's Dr. P. Phillips Baby Place Doubles in Size

WINTER PARK — As construction crews turn the dirt to break ground for the Dr. P. Phillips Baby Place expansion at Winter Park Memorial Hospital, a Florida Hospital, sets of twins were also playing in the dirt. Today, these little tikes, who were all born at the Baby Place, watered a miniature garden to represent growth, as the facility is doubling in size.

The new addition, which has a "due date" to complete construction in summer 2010, will double the size of the existing Baby Place facility, providing even more families with extraordinary care and boutique services. According to Ken Bradley, administrator of Winter Park Memorial Hospital, the expansion is based on the increasing number of women who want to deliver at the Baby Place.

"This expansion represents a major commitment from Florida Hospital to families of Central Florida," Bradley said. "Construction projects like this are also good for our economy today, as this will create new jobs. We are proud to be building this addition."

When completed, the three-story, 47,000-square-foot structure will house 10 new labor and delivery rooms, three cesarean-section operating rooms, four new triage rooms, a nursery and a new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Both the existing and new facilities have the entire family in mind, providing a unique experience so everyone feels pampered during the birthing process. At this boutique hospital, families can enjoy amenities including a mother concierge program, free mommy and daddy massages, afternoon teas, gourmet celebration dinners, baby portraits, complimentary valet, private appointments with lactation consultants and on-site birth certificate availability. Each suite is also equipped with hardwood floors, private bathrooms, mini refrigerators, an interactive flat-screen television, a DVD player and a large sleeping sofa for family and friends spending time with delivering mothers.
