Nemours Awarded Top Hospital Distinction by Leapfrog Group

Nemours Children’s Hospital was one of just nine children’s hospitals in the country to make the annual Top Hospital List from the Leapfrog Group. This elite distinction is awarded to hospitals nationwide for demonstrating excellence in hospital safety and quality through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The awards, which are given annually, will be announced at Leapfrog’s Annual Meeting and Top Hospital Awards tonight, in Washington, D.C.

Leapfrog’s Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions any hospital can achieve in the United States. It recognizes institutions for their excellence in quality of care and patient safety, as well as their commitment to transparency.

The Top Hospital award is given to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals. Nemours Children’s Hospital was one of 94 Top Hospitals recognized nationally. The list includes:

• 24 Top Rural Hospitals

• 61 Top Urban Hospitals

• Nine Top Children’s Hospitals

The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including rates for high-risk procedures and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.

The Top Hospital award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather, to all urban, rural and children's hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year's Top Hospitals Methodology.

System Launched to Improve Cardiovascular Outcomes

COR Medical Technologies (COR) has introduced CORcare™, a comprehensive instant outcome support system for rapid and accurate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up management of patients with acute and chronic, common and rare diseases involving the cardiovascular system. It was developed by Vincent Friedewald, M.D., F.A.C.C., with the support of an internationally-acclaimed Senior Editorial Board. COR is a vast, one-of-a-kind relational database comprising thousands of signs and symptoms, imaging findings, laboratory abnormalities, electrocardiographic results, body area networking (BAN) measures, and genomics, as well as drugs and devices used for treatment.

CORcare is available to healthcare professionals on a variety of technology platforms including mobile devices. Targeted users of CORcare include physicians, emergency medical technicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, physician groups, hospitals, and academic institutions and their students.

CORcare helps healthcare professionals consider all possible conditions associated with any single or combination of clinical features for rapid assistance in differential diagnosis and narrowing down to the final diagnosis. CORcare is the first system to embed ACCF/AHA Guidelines specific to data points within each condition, providing instant graded opinions of leading authorities. This feature fully supports and uses the “Guideline Directed Medical Therapy (GDMT)” initiative of the AHA and ACC.

Also based on ACCF/AHA Guidelines, CORcare provides order sets for many of the common conditions, a feature proven to reduce physician ordering time by up to 50 percent. After diagnoses and management strategies are in place, CORcare provides a secure platform for patient follow-up – called MyCOR™ – which includes tools to improve medication adherence and other telemedicine functions.
