LAKE–SUMTER MEDICAL SOCIETY
I’m happy to report that Lake-Sumter Medical Society is busy and active!

LSMS Board of Governors welcomes new Board Members

The Board of Governors said good bye to Dr. Nicola Ally, who has moved to Brevard County, and Dr. Michael Levine, who will be retiring; and welcomes new members, Dr. Jason Boardman and Dr. Ernesto Zavaleta. Dr. Boardman’s specialty is general surgery and Dr. Zavaleta’s area of expertise is internal medicine. Both are located in the Clermont area.

EXPO 2008 for Lake & Sumter Counties

By the time this goes to print the EXPO 2008 will be a wonderful memory. Lake Receptions of Mount Dora was the site of this year’s event featuring a variety of over 40 vendors, fabulous refreshments, childcare, and lots of door prizes. EXPO 2008 is a highlight of the Lake-Sumter Medical Society year and we anticipate an amazing success. We extend our thanks to everyone who participated in the event, and especially to our wonderful sponsors and generous vendors. We are also grateful for our fabulous childcare workers from Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

Recruitment Resource Established for Lake Sumter Medical Society

LSMS is pleased to announce a partnership with the national recruitment company, JOBING.COM, providing a liaison for members to connect with job applicants through this professional placement company. Jobing.com serves central Florida, and though it competes with other familiar recruitment Web sites, it operates locally, is easy to access and reasonably priced. LSMS receives a small portion of proceeds from LSMS member contracts, as well as a webpage devoted to the organization. Give them a try! Either call the LSMS office (352-483-4748) or go to www.jobing.com and tell them you are a member of Lake-Sumter Medical Society for a great deal.

It’s medical license renewal time!

In October, the Florida Board of Medicine sent out license renewal reminders to those Florida physicians whose medical licenses must be renewed by Jan. 31, 2009. These reminders came to you in a postcard format, therefore, they could have been easy to overlook. We have been advised that this will be the only reminder that the Board of Medicine will send you! Whether you have the card or not, doctors are asked to go to www.FLHealthsource.com to renew your license and to update your profile. If you prefer to use a paper submission, you will still be required to go to the Web site to download the application. Additionally, there is a mandatory survey to complete, and on-line users can easily click to those areas pertaining to you. The paper version is more cumbersome, we are told.

Attention Osteopathic Physicians - You have a different renewal cycle, with all renewals occurring by March 31 of even-numbered years. The renewal process, however, is the same as MD’s and should also be done through the same Web site.
Incidentally, the Florida Board of Medicine phone number is 850-245-4131.
