Lake-Sumter Medical Society Looks To Positive Election Results!
The Florida Medical Association reports that all 14 candidates endorsed by FMA PAC in the State Senate won their races. This means that FMA PAC endorsed candidates WON 66 out of 67 races in the Florida House. Which results in FMA PAC endorsed candidates winning 80 out of 81 races - an overall 98.5 percent success rate in Florida Legislative races. These leaders will bring strong advocacy for physicians and their concerns.
Additionally, Republicans will retain a 26-14 advantage in the Florida Senate and most likely will hold a 76-44 advantage in the Florida House (a net loss of one seat). The FMA PAC is thrilled to report the election of another physician, Ron Renuart, to the Florida House where he will join Rep. Ed Homan, MD and Paige Kreegel, MD, who both won their re-elections. Additionally, another strong, pro-medicine, physician spouse, Eleanor Sobel, is now in the State Senate!

INSURANCE NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lake-Sumter Medical Society is preparing to mount a campaign for the LSMS sponsored Health Insurance Benefit Trust plan for physicians, their families and office staff. This program was started two years ago and has met with great success. The arrangement with Blue Cross/Blue Shield has allowed the Trust to share profit, while offering practices valuable savings. It is our intent to work closely with the program administrator, Barrett, Liner & Company, to save our physicians money while providing competitive plans for coverage. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that the LSMS sponsored Health Insurance Benefit Trust will be open for new participants in early 2009. It is essential that interested physicians take advantage of upcoming seminars during the month of December. Be watching for meeting announcement postings on the LSMS website, in the weekly TGIF newsletter, in fax announcements, and notices in physician's lounges. Bear in mind that in order to participate in this cost saving insurance plan, you must be a member in good standing of the Lake-Sumter Medical Society.
