Some of our vendors include many EHR and IT businesses, as well as medical care providers, the local hospitals, Lake Sumter Community College, Elsevier Publishers, Docs Toy Store and many, many more! Don't miss this annual event set for Wednesday, November 4, at Lake Receptions in Mount Dora. Contact us at 352-483-4748 or check out event details at www.lakesumter.org.

H1N1 Vaccinations – Is Your Practice Ready?

Has your office recently been inundated with calls about H1N1 vaccinations? If you plan on administering the vaccinations this fall you will need to complete the following steps. First, to become a local H1N1 vaccine provider you must enter into an agreement with the Florida Department of Health. This may be done electronically through a simple registration process on the web-based "Florida SHOTS" program (www.flshots.com). Some providers may wish to order directly from the State Department of Health (DOH) and have vaccines dropped shipped directly to their facility. The minimum number you may order from DOH is 100 doses. Your first order should only request the number of doses you would need the first month for patients in the target groups. The vaccine is being delivered to the State in incremental shipments and you will have more opportunities to order vaccine. If you need less than 50 doses of the vaccine, you can contact Gina Schmitt, H1N1 Program Administrative Assistant at (407) 665-3186 or email Gina_Schmitt@doh.state.fl.us. Gina will let you know what you need to do to order the vaccinations through the Health Department. In addition, if your staff or any patients would like to get vaccinated they can be directed to the local health department free-standing H1N1 clinics, once they become available. As soon as the addresses for these clinics become available, that information will be posted on the Seminole County Health Department Web site at:  http://seminolecohealth.com/. The vaccine is provided with its administration supplies at no cost to you or the patient. You may charge a fee, amount not yet determined, for the administration of the vaccine to the patient, their health insurance plan, or other third party payer.

It's that time of year

The Department of Health (DOH) has recently mailed a license renewal notification postcard to all Florida-licensed physicians whose licenses expire on January 31, 2010. The postcard contains instructions regarding how to complete your renewal by logging on to the DOH Web site at http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/mqaservices/flhealth_index.asp. Please note that your user ID and password for this system were mailed with your physical license. (Look in the center section and refer to the Online Services instructions, item #5). Go to: http://www.fmaonline.org/informz/licenserenewal.pdf to view a sample renewal postcard. For login assistance, call the DOH help desk at 850.488.0595 and choose option 3. For other questions, call the Board of Medicine at 850.245.4131 of Jennifer Hinson at the FMA at 800.762.0233.
