Orange County Medical Foundation Donates $40,000 to UCF College of Medicine Scholarship Fund

During the Orange County Medical Society's Fall quarterly meeting on Wed., Sept. 10, the board of the Orange County Medical Foundation proudly presented a check in the amount of $40,000 to Deborah German, MD, for the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine scholarship fund. Initiated last year by Immediate Past President George Ellis, MD, the Foundation entered into an historic scholarship partnership with the UCF College of Medicine to grant a scholarship to every admitted medical student in the inaugural class.

"As physicians we are pleased to make this donation to the UCF College of Medicine in support of future physicians. We know firsthand the financial strain medical students face after graduating. Now they will be free of financial worries and can focus on their studies," said Connie Micklavzina, MD, president of the Orange County Medical Foundation.

The donation was made possible as a result of the proceeds raised at the OCMS Centennial Gala on June 7. As the philanthropic arm of the Orange County Medical Society, the Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes and has made it a priority to assist medical students in handling the rising cost of medical education.

OCMS Office Managers Luncheon

The OCMS in partnership with Health Central hosted a "Lunch and Learn" for office managers on Wed., Sept. 10. The OCMS recognizes the important role practice managers play in the medical community and we are pleased to offer quarterly office manager luncheons. These unique educational luncheons provide opportunities for medical office managers and staff to be informed and updated on health care regulations and cost cutting innovations for the physician's office. These luncheons also provide an opportunity for networking and exchange of useful information which is of mutual interest. During the luncheon on Sept. 10, office managers and staff were treated to an excellent presentation on "Risk Management for the Medical Office" given by Dan Reale with Danna-Gracey Insurance Agency. Throughout the luncheon, prizes were given away to several lucky ticket holders who received gift baskets and gift certificates. For more information about the office manager luncheons and other benefits of membership, please contact the OCMS office at 407-622-8188.
