One of the largest, most exciting projects to come to Mount Dora will bring
dozens of jobs and millions of dollars to local economy

Lakeside at Waterman Village, an expansion of the Waterman Village retirement community, has officially broken ground. Shovels made their first scoops on Wednesday morning at the site just across from Manorside Drive on North Donnelly Street.

The groundbreaking marked the official start of one of the biggest and most highly anticipated projects to come to Mount Dora in decades. A small, socially distanced, yet excited crowd of project leadership members savored the occasion, with Mount Dora Vice Mayor, Harmon Massey, also present.

“The challenges we have all faced this year make us especially proud to reach this exciting stage,” Andrew Dujon, CEO of Waterman Communities Inc., said. “I’m inspired by the people who have decided to make Lakeside at Waterman Village their next home, and Waterman Communities is incredibly thankful for our team who has made this ambitious effort possible.”

DeAngelis Diamond Construction of Naples, Florida, is the contractor for the project, with Greystone Communities guiding the development. Lakeside at Waterman Village will bring 60 permanent jobs and 300 temporary jobs to the area, with an estimated $63 million net boost to the area economy based on construction of the project itself.

Aside from the economic impact on Mount Dora locally, the project will enable hundreds of seniors to enjoy an exciting, fulfilling lifestyle. The new neighborhood will surround Lake Margaret and will offer contemporary innovations such as state-of-the-art wellness, dining and fitness amenities, electric car charging stations and a special sensory room designed for residents living in the memory support suites.

Lakeside at Waterman Village will include a total of 183 brand-new residences, 159 of which will be for independent living and 24 for memory support. Currently, 104 (65 percent) of the independent living residences are already reserved.

Waterman Communities Inc., a nonprofit that has served Orlando-area seniors for more than 30 years, estimates that Lakeside at Waterman Village will open in early 2022.
