David Overfield Named Interim Assistant Health Officer at Florida DOH-Orange County

Dr. Kevin M. Sherin, Director and Health Officer of the Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) has named David Overfield Interim Assistant Health Officer to fill the position of the retiring Lesli Ahonkhai. He will assume Ms. Ahonkhai's responsibilities over health department operations when she retires on June 15, 2017.

Mr. Overfield has over 17 years of public health experience. During his tenure, Mr. Overfield has worked in various areas of Environment Health and is currently the Environmental Health Administrator of one of the largest Environmental Health Departments with the integrated DOH. His responsibilities also include managing the Injury and Tobacco Prevention programs.

He has served as a medic in the U.S. Navy and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Central Florida. Mr. Overfield has represented DOH-Orange with distinction on various local, state, and national workgroups and boards. He has also acted as the Health Protection Division Director, and is noted for leading the way and improving the culture of DOH-Orange through successful employee engagement activities and implementing innovative ideas that led to improved client services and increased revenue. Mr. Overfield comes highly recommended for this role.
