Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center Announces New Chief Quality Officer

 Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) recently named Dr. Satyanarayana Mukkera, as chief quality officer. An experienced critical care intensivist, Dr. Mukkera will bring exceptional leadership skills and a passion for excellence in patient care to continue outstanding results in patient quality and safety at Orlando Health ORMC.

 

Dr. Mukkera has held several positions at Orlando Health and currently holds faculty appointments. He most recently served as chief quality officer at Orlando Health - Health Central Hospital and Orlando Health - Horizon West Hospital. Previous roles include critical care medicine specialist at Orlando Health ORMC and Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, and medical director for the Intensive Care Unit at Orlando Health Dr. Phillips. Dr. Mukkera is assistant professor in internal medicine at the College of Medicine at the University of Central Florida, and the College of Medicine at Florida State University.

 

Prior to joining Orlando Health, Dr. Mukkera was chair of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Springfield Clinic in Springfield, Illinois, and director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He also served as associate professor in internal medicine, emergency medicine and neurology for the SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.

 

Board certified in critical care medicine and neurocritical care, Dr. Mukkera earned a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore, India, and a master of public health in epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in critical care medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

 

Dr. Mukkera is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Certified Physician Executive (CPE). He is a reviewer for multiple medical journals and has participated in numerous research studies. His scope of research includes iatrogenic opioid withdrawal in medical critical care patients, acute respiratory distress syndrome, quality improvement, and safety.
