Dr. Karen Lu has recently taken on the role of Executive Vice President and Physician in Chief at Moffitt Cancer Center, where she now oversees the Moffitt Medical Group. The Moffitt Medical Group, boasting over 600 faculty members and advanced practice providers, stands out as the largest multidisciplinary medical group practice in Florida. This strategic appointment is pivotal in Moffitt's ongoing commitment to reducing cancer mortality rates.

A nationally recognized physician-scientist, Dr. Lu has dedicated her clinical and research efforts to the surgical and medical treatment of women with ovarian and endometrial cancers. Additionally, she has focused on managing women at genetically high risk for these cancers, establishing herself as a prominent figure in the cancer genetics field. Noteworthy contributions include seminal articles on hereditary gynecological cancers.

Over 15 Years Of Healthcare Leadership Experience

Boasting over 15 years of healthcare leadership experience, Dr. Lu previously chaired the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine and co-directed the Clinical Cancer Genetics program at MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining Moffitt. She also served as the ad interim Chief Clinical Officer at MD Anderson.

Dr. Lu's academic background encompasses a bachelor's degree in biochemical sciences from Harvard University, completion of medical studies at Yale University School of Medicine, and a master's in healthcare management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Demonstrating her commitment to advancing the field, she actively participates in organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology Research Committee and is set to assume the role of President-Elect of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. Furthermore, she is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.
