Kissimmee  – HCA Healthcare North Florida Division announced today the appointment of David Shimp as Chief Executive Officer of Osceola Regional Medical Center, effective December 13, 2021. Shimp has nearly two decades of healthcare leadership experience within the HCA Healthcare system.

In his new role, Shimp will oversee the 404-bed hospital which has served the residents and visitors of Central Florida for nearly 90 years. Shimp assumes leadership from Davide Carbone, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

“David exemplifies the highest and most admirable qualities as a healthcare leader and operator, and I am confident he and his team will serve our Central Florida communities with great dedication and a focus on healthcare excellence,” said Richard Hammett, President of HCA Healthcare North Florida Division. “Osceola Regional Medical Center is one of our largest facilities in the North Florida Division serving more than 100,000 patients a year. David and his team will center on a ‘care like family’ culture to ensure each patient in need of our services receives the high-quality, compassionate care they need and deserve.”

Shimp most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of HCA Healthcare’s Del Sol Medical Center, a 315-bed, Level II Trauma designated full-service, acute care hospital in El Paso, Texas. Under Shimp’s leadership, Del Sol has experienced growth in both clinical programs and facilities, has risen to a Leapfrog ‘A’ rated facility, has received several Healthgrades awards of excellence, and is in the top 25% for patient experience.

Prior to his tenure at Del Sol Medical Center, Shimp was the Chief Operating Officer of St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas. At St. David’s Medical Center, Shimp played a key role in numerous strategic, clinical and operational initiatives, including more than $100 million in capital projects that contributed to the hospital’s overall growth. Preceding his time with St. David’s Medical Center, Shimp served in various roles at University of Oklahoma (OU) Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., ultimately serving as the chief operating officer. In this role, he was responsible for leading a variety of programs and service lines at the 798-bed acute care academic medical center, including the Solid Organ Transplant Program, cardiovascular and oncology service lines, the Sleep Disorders Center, respiratory therapy and rehabilitation.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join the HCA Healthcare North Florida Division and become the new CEO of Osceola Regional Medical Center,” said David Shimp, incoming Chief Executive Officer at Osceola Regional Medical Center. “Our healthcare professionals are invaluable to our communities. The pandemic only further solidified this fact as our caregivers and those who support them are heroes as they battled through each wave of Covid19. I’m beyond honored to lead this talented group of healthcare professionals and Osceola into a bright future with our mission front and center - above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”

Shimp earned his Master of Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in leadership studies with a minor in biology from the University of Richmond. Shimp is a fellow of the American College of HealthCare Executives. He has served on multiple Boards including the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, the BorderPlex Alliance and was a member of the American Heart Association Executive Leadership Council in Central Texas and the LifeShare Organ Procurement Organization Board of Directors in Oklahoma. Shimp has also served as a volunteer for the Children’s Hospital Foundation, United Way, and Habitat for Humanity, among other organizations.
