LIFT Orlando and Atlanta-based developer partner Columbia Residential has broken ground on a senior housing complex, marking the latest phase in the effort to drive investment in the Communities of West Lakes adjacent to Camping World Stadium.

"The City of Orlando is committed to ensuring that anyone who wants to call Orlando home has access to safe, high quality housing they can afford," said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. "We are grateful for our partnership with LIFT Orlando that brings new investment to this historic neighborhood and creates a thriving new community that our senior residents will be proud to call home."

The $23.5 million development will be located at 2205 Orange Center Boulevard on the site of the former Orange Manor Apartments and will feature 120 one- and two-bedroom affordable senior apartment homes in an expansive three-story building.

"The realization of these new affordable homes for our seniors in the Communities of West Lakes has been years in the making. It would never have happened without the support of our resident leaders, the City of Orlando and our many housing partners including our developer, Columbia Residential," said Eddy Moratin, Executive Director, LIFT Orlando. "Providing more high-quality, affordable housing, specifically for our senior residents has been a top priority and it is very exciting to finally begin construction," continued Moratin.

The senior housing development, like the adjacent Pendana at West Lakes mixed-income community, is being developed in partnership with Columbia Residential.

"During this crucial time for Orlando's affordable housing supply, Columbia Residential is truly honored to continue growing the Communities of West Lakes alongside LIFT Orlando," said Noel Khalil, founder and principal of Columbia Residential. "Together we are working to revitalize a vibrant neighborhood village, carefully designed to unite residents and serve today's seniors with modern amenities."

The complex was designed exclusively for seniors (62 years and older). It is slated to begin occupancy by late 2019.

LIFT Orlando is a nonprofit organization consisting of business leaders partnering with residents to drive investments that strengthen the Communities of West Lakes through mixed-income housing, cradle-to-career education, community health and wellness, and long-term economic viability. LIFT was founded in 2012 in partnership with Florida Citrus Sports for the benefit of the residents living in the shadows of Camping World Stadium and serves the key role of a "community quarterback" to unlock the power of collective impact by coordinating the geographically focused efforts of multiple organizations around a single neighborhood.
