National Training Center to Take Part in The 38th National Veterans Wheelchair Games

More than 600 disabled veterans from across the United States, Puerto Rico and Great Britain will compete in one of the largest annual wheelchair sports events in the world, the 38th National Veterans Wheelchair Games, July 30th - August 4th in the Orlando area.

The National Veterans Wheelchair Games are co-presented between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America. This multi-event sports and rehabilitation program is for military service Veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations or other neurological disorders. It presents disabled veterans an opportunity to improve function, independence and gets them active in their communities through sports and fitness. The Orlando VA Medical Center and the Central Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America are hosting this year's event.

The Wheelchair Games includes 20 events: air guns, archery, basketball, boccia, bowling, field, handcycling, a motorized wheelchair rally, nine ball, power soccer, quad rugby, slalom, softball, swimming, table tennis, track, trapshooting, golf, weightlifting, and a team relay.

On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, The National Training Center will host the Team Relay Event from 6pm to 8pm which includes a freestyle swim, bench press competition, 5K and a 200m race. Clermont's geography and the NTC's facility provide an excellent resource for the 20 competing teams.
